RAF Air Cadets take to the skies

On 3rd April 2018, cadets from 878 Highworth Squadron were treated to a three hour flight in an RAF C-17 Globemaster III. It was a reward for those cadets who assisted at a community event in Lechlade last year, and it was an amazing experience for all involved. Everyone got the chance to ride in the cockpit and experience a take off and landing. The cadets were in the air for 3 hours whilst the pilots took them across the country, to RAF Mildenhall and back, giving the pilots the opportunity to get some essential training.

The Boeing C-17 is a long range, heavy-lift strategic transport aircraft that is based at RAF Brize Norton. It can transport 45,000kg of freight whilst flying at altitudes above 35,000ft. It is a phenomenal aircraft and all the cadets that went enjoyed every minute, plus they can guarantee their friends haven’t done anything like it.
