The Highworth Air Cadets aim to do a sports night every month of the year and clearly, during the winter months, due to the dark and the cold, this becomes a lot harder to keep up. Thankfully, this winter they have had access to the Recreational Centre in Highworth allowing sporting activities to continue despite the cold.
By having access to this facility, the squadron has been able to get all 16 of their new recruits, who joined in September 2018, to complete majority of their Blue, Pre-Duke of Edinburgh, Badge. This badge includes volunteering for 3 months, completing 1 exam in the First-Class classification syllabus and showing an improvement on 3 set physical tests over 4 weeks. The main aim of the physical aspect is to improve upon their initial base line results and every cadet managed this improvement over the 4-week period.
On top of gaining the Blue Pre DofE Badge the cadets have taken part in some competitive games of tag rugby, basketball, bench ball, football and rounders, with a larger inter-squadron basketball competition coming up soon. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed these nights as it allowed them to release some energy and have some competitive fun during the dark winter months.
